Obviously the more rigid the better and buy as big a machine as you can afford. Remember, most smiths were using the SB Heavy 10 (10L) and it's lighter than the PM 1340GT. I have a PM1440 Lathe and overall I am pretty happy with it. I've had to fix a few little things but overall PM has treated me pretty good. Had a bit of a tif over microswitch, but when I clearly said send me the microswitch they sent me the microswitch. LOL.
